The cross-cultural issues inherent in establishing a business in Japan represent one of the greatest concerns and challenges currently facing European companies seeking to enter the Japanese market. Indeed, in previous interviews conducted by the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation - the aim of which were to collect information on the internationalisation process of EU companies already in Japan - most company officials pointed out that the greatest difficulty for them was related to cultural matters and to understanding the Japanese business approach.
